Do you know where potatoes come from? Peru!
They were domesticated 7,000 to 10,000 years ago in the Andean region of Peru, and there are thousands of varieties there today. We'll be cooking some potatoes later in the month, but today it was time for a potato craft. We made potato stamps and then some homemade wrapping paper. You could also do cards or just a fun art project.

You could also do cards or just a fun art project.
Supplies:
- potatoes (I used russet, but it would be fun to have a mix)
- sharp, small knife (for grown-up use)
- paints (we used acrylic)
- flat plates for the paints (stamp pad)
- paper (we used our easel)
Step One: Cut out shapes in the potatoes. I drew a sort-of outline with a pen first. I did a couple on my own while The Whirl Girl was sleeping to test it out and then did the rest when she woke up so she could offer ideas for shapes.
Step Two: Stamp. I put the paint on flat plastic plates and The Whirl Girl dipped and stamped. It took her a little while to get the hang (and the point) of not smearing the paint all around.
Step Three: Let it dry and you're done!
